Missed Me

I had been working in my wooded area transplanting some purple oxalis that had grown outside the bed. As you can see I left my watering can. I returned inside, glanced out of the window, and noticed a big branch had come down right where I was sitting.

A couple of yards away I found the rest of the branch driven about 7 inches into the ground. I guess it was my lucky day that the limbs missed me.
Oh wow!! That would of been a hard knocker to the head!! So glad it missed you!
The day would have been entirely different.
Luck is a good thing.
One can never have too much of it.
EEk, I have had a similar experience. The garden angels are looking out for you.
It was my lucky day. Should have bought a lottery ticket.
A friend of my father’s was killed by a falling oak branch while sitting in his car….
Phew, that was lucky! I have just been reading a post about trees suddenly dropping large limbs here in Australia. These eucalypts are colloquially called ‘Widow Makers’.
I might think about that before planting one of those.
I have been reading your blog, but for some reason, it will not allow me to type a comment. It seems to let me ” like “your post, but that’s it. I always look forward to seeing how things are on your side of the world.
I have been having similar problems with a few posts. I found it was sometimes easier to comment via the reader rather than an email. I don’t know if that helps. Also, I tend to use an iPad, but I found WordPress seems to work much better on my laptop, for some reason. It all quite frustrating at times.
Wow! Glad it missed you! Maybe you need to have an arborist out to check out a few limbs??
Probably, but it happens all the time. I think I had that tree trimmed a couple of years ago. The trees just shed their lower branches as they grow.
Crikey, so close! Your guardian angels were definitely on duty, TYG!
For sure!
Have you been having the kind of winds that have been blowing down here at the coast? It’s been 20-25 steady, with gusts to 35 and even 40 mph. On the other hand, I remember reading somewhere — maybe in Tony’s blog — about something called “spontaneous limb drop.” Whatever the cause, I’m glad you weren’t under those branches!
By the way — the bald cypress here at my complex leafed out today. They still had bare limbs when I left for work this morning, and when I got home tonight, every single tree had those cute baby leaves. Amazing.
It has been windy, but probably not as bad as you were having. The wind was not blowing when I was working. I’m being more careful about that and try to stay out of the woods on windy days. One thing about the trees here is that they drop limbs as they grow. This one was bound to come down, as it didn’t have any leaves on it. There are a bunch of pine tree limbs ready to fall also. That is pretty cool about your bald cypress. It just suddenly happens.
Gosh – that was a near miss! I’m glad and relieved you’d gone inside.
Yes, and it fell not too long after I had gone in. I’m glad I didn’t go back for my watering can.
Me too!
Glad you weren’t dinged by that thing. That would be a serious injury. We live dangerously, we gardeners!
That is true. I stabbed myself with tools and have been stung by fire ants, spiders and bees.
Oh boy. You were so lucky!
Timing is everything.
Goodness me, you were lucky! Scary to think of what could have happened. I saw a video recently of a car that was turning in a drive and then stopped and reversed a couple of metres more for some reason and at that moment a huge branch fell on the car! No injuries, but the chances of it happening are there, no matter how slim. Take care!
It is scary. I love having a wooded lot, but dangers can come with it. The trees made it through a couple of hurricanes, but I guess they are starting to get old.
Gosh, thank goodness that you took a break and went inside, that was lucky!
A bit scary.
Indeed it is!
A big dose of serendipity! Glad you weren’t hurt.
My lucky day.
