The Vines Will Play When the Gardener Is Away

It did not take much time while I was away for my vines to get out of control. The Dutchman’s Pipe headed to the trees. It left its bounds but it is really showing off its blooms.
The intertwining of the Passion Flowers is really my fault as I left them too close together. They were moved to take advantage of the sprinkler system.
The Hyacinth Bean is not flowering and has taken off too far into the trees to get it back.
The Coral Vine is a problem that I need to fix. It normally climbed up the Weeping Bottle Brush that became a statistic of the 2021 freeze. Now it has nothing to climb and is currently feeding the migrating hummingbirds. That problem will have to be put on hold.
The Black-eyed Susan Vine was already growing on the ground when I left. It really likes it there and has tripled in size.
I allowed the wild Amberique Bean to grow in a bed. As wild things tend to do, it ran amok covering wanted plants. Usually, I guide the vine to grow where I want.
I missed my gardens while on vacation and they missed being tended.
I fear vines!
They must be controled.
I decided one time that it was a good idea to plant a Lady Banks Rose and Sweet Autumn Clematis on the same trellis. Not.
Both are great growers. I bet it was hard to separate them.
A huge mess…I have one vine here, though Allamanda surrounds me from other places.
Oh yes, and getting them out of the trees is a mess. It is a bummer to waste grapes that are beyond reach.
Despite all the issues surrounding vines (especially wild Morning Glory–ugh), these are wonderful photos.
Thanks!
They’ll come back to form with your tender care. Black Eyed Susans were our older daughter’s favorite flower. She even had them in her wedding bouquet.
I have been able to grow a variety of those since the rabbits have left.
I’ve respected vines ever since a friend had one take over her patio table and climb up the umbrella over it — in about three days. I once came across some autumn clematis in east Texas that had climbed at least 50′ into a pine tree. Amazing!
I had a jasmine get loose and it made it all the way up a loblolly.
A hostile takeover! 🙂
Really and I didn’t even mention the wild vines that I routinely pull up that were overgrown.
I recently picked up a Dutchman’s pipe plant.🌱💚
They are really interesting. I had a giant one once and the flower was the size of my hand.
Vines do play when the gardener’s away–as do so many things! Great title!
I’m not even going to talk about the weeds.
The vines are getting their revenge for being left alone! 😉
For sure.
