Rainy Day

We have had several days of rain in the area and today was our big day.  So far we have had about 3 inches, but other parts of the city received at least 8 inches.  I went out to clear a clog.

We have a French drain that carries the rainwater across the yard, down a drain to a pipe and out to the street.  It doesn’t take much to clog it.

The birds were hungry on this wet day and while I was taking care of them, I noticed how pretty my gingers were glistening with rain.  The gingers are Hedychium coccineum.

  1. Do you live in Texas? I’m guessing between the armadillos and rain, that you must be at least near there. I heard on the news yesterday that Texas was getting lots of rain.

    • Yes, I live near Houston. We also have the COVID spike that was on the news. We were doing really well until the governor decided to open up the state. A lesson to others.

      • Our state has been open for quite awhile now, and I think it’s going pretty well. I think the Southern states are having more of a spike than than the Northern states. At least that’s what my daughter tells me because I don’t watch the news anymore. I did notice the other day at the stores I was in that more people are now wearing masks than ever before.

      • We are a mess and everyone needs to be careful to keep our families and neighbors safe. Like everything else this will pass and be a distant memory.

I’m envious– We desperately need rain!

We’re still drippy here this morning. We haven’t had nearly as much rain as you, but it’s stayed wet for days because of the passing showers. We did need the rain, but I think it can stop now.
    Your gingers are especially pretty.

  4. I do love your gingers, mine still look awful and I was considering putting them in pots to see what happens. After 20 inches of rain the first two weeks of June – now I am having to water. Are you getting the dust? It is supposed to be here today, my friend in PR took some crazy pictures of it.

Like your boots! We were really dry,but some thunderstorms came through to give us a little rain.

  6. A tropical forest. We’ve had so much rain so far this summer that we’re sure to have a bumper crop of tree frogs in a bit. So how needs sleep anyway?

Your gingers are certainly looking wonderful! Stay safe!
