Don’t Fence Me In

I went out and dug up all the gingers that had made their way under the fence.
Boundaries mean nothing to these plants and they continue to head out into the wild greenbelt.
Plants have minds of their own…:)
I guess I need to let them be.
Would they do any harm in the greenbelt, like displacing native plants? Depending on what’s in the greenbelt, they might be an improvement!
No, nothing but weeds grow in that area. The trees are far enough back that there is some sun there too. The frustrating part is that they keep their tubers under the fence and it is difficult to dig them up.
Those are aggressive. An old client left me a weirdly amusing (but to some, a potentially offensive) message about those that were coming under her fence. I know it is irrelevant, but I think it is funny. She explained how aggressive they were, . . . and how they were coming under the fence, . . . and how they were taking over the neighborhood, . . . and how they multiplied like rats, . . . , and how someone should do something about them, . . . and worst of all, that they should all be eradicated. What was so awkward about all this, is that, despite her otherwise impeccable spelling, she had mistakenly transposed the first ‘g’ and ‘n’ in ‘ginger.
Oh my.
Yeah, it is amusing enough to write about, but I am too embarrassed to do so.
It just wanted to see what was on the other side of the fence. Does remind me of a gardening friend we had back in Alabama 40 some years ago. My husband asked him what was growing in our flower garden. He replied that it was a cucumber and then he asked did we want it there.
“No,” said my handsome devil.
“Well, then,” said our neighbor, “it’s a weed.” He yanked out of the ground then and there. Made perfect sense to us.
At least it’s not torpedoegrass!
Invasive plants are so frustrating.
“Boundaries mean nothing to these plants….” Made me grin. Sorry.
Good, I was going for funny.
Plants go where they will. Crawling under a fence is easy peasy and those 4 inch plastic barriers are meaningless. We just try to coexist.
