What is in a Name?

The Golden Dewdrop.  Where does that name take the imagination?

The flowers are very purple.  They do not look golden or like a dewdrop.

Who ever named the plant was fascinated with end of the flower’s cycle.  The seeds certainly do look like golden dewdrops.

Have you ever wondered how plants are named?  Or at least their common name?  Who got to decide?  What were they focused on?  Surely all those questions can be researched, but it still makes one think.  The Golden Dewdrop almost always prompts everyone to take a second look at those purple blooms and ask again for its name.

Its proper name is Duranta erecta.
