River Birch,  Acer rubrum drummondii

Sweetgum, Liquidambar styraciflua

Ironwood, Carpinus caroliniana

Loplolly Pine, Pinus taeda

Bark.  Largely ignored until it catches the fancy of an artist or photographer.  Definitely worth a second look especially this time of year when many trees are no longer adorned in their eye catching leaves.  Every tree has its own signature design on its trunk and branches.

Love that river birch! And the ironwood, too. This reminds me that I want a paperbark maple!

  2. Great pictures, I love bark! Even chocolate bark.
